Jan 1st- my kitchen looked like this.

Okay I am not going to exaggerate this was December 28th.

I felt a little anxious this year.

(K- the Dog is cracking me up in this pic)

I felt the need to de clutter, organize, and clean cupboards.

Which led to maybe a little paint, and trim, and glaze, and new hardware.

Those of you who know me realize that this phenomenon happens once every 10 to 20 years.

No exaggeration there.

This of course can only happen because-

Missionary daughter has made it to the island of St. Lucia

A small plane ride away from her mission home of Trinidad.

Bless the senior couple missionaries that handed her their phone-

at the airport in Miami, and said call your parents.

I said, "I wanna go??” –and yes it may have had a little whine it.

She replied sweetly, “ MOM, you are FINE”

I don’t think she understands – I really, really just want to go to St. Lucia:)

The spirit of Christ has been in our home this Christmas Season.

We have been so blessed to be parents to this Beautiful Girl.

We are so grateful for her example of Christ like love, and obedience.

May we follow her example in the coming 18 months and give a little more of ourselves.

Harry entered our life in 1998

– when my oldest princess was about ten.

blame it on Bonnie, yep it is all her fault.

She asked me if Princess had read Harry Potter

(I had never heard of the little wizard)

So I ran right out and bought the book.

Since Harry became part of the family

….we have never been the same.

We stay up until all hours of the night

to buy books…

… and see movies

We talk using words like muggles, horcrux, portkey, and quidditch.

Some of us have hosted Harry Potter Parties….

There is a long and vicious battle between my sisters and I.

As to who is really the favorite Auntie.

I am here to tell you we all know the truth.

These kiddies sometimes change their answer on a whim.

I have to be on my toes at all times.

He keeps upping his price for “favorite Aunt”

You know, milkshakes, pizza, slurpies

or some fireworks. (yeah fireworks, that one always works)

Needless to say, you can see why we fight over them.

and sometimes kidnap them for hours and hours,

or even days at a time.

Through a very long season of many disappointments

he showed his true character,

I have some advice for my GROWN UP princesses.

If they remember anything I have ever, taught, lectured, yelled, or other wise tried to push down their throats -

I pray they remember this.

We can create mathematical equations for a straight line, a perfect circle, or a perfect sphere.

But in reality these perfect forms do not exist.

There are no straight lines, no perfect circles nor perfect spheres in nature.

In fact space is curved and time is warped.

Everything seems to contain at least small imperfections.

The most striking of art is full of imperfections.

The most boring of art is a dull reproduction.

As I write this the thought floats thru my mind that I have been told very recently by an adored child,

“you are so weird!”

So here’s to embracing our imperfections.

of how and why they built these amazing temples.

Tulum is one of the smaller temples,

so that means there are many more to see.

True Story

The following is a serious post

straight up this is what happened.

See the Americans staring at that tiny speck in the water

Seems our ship almost swamped this little tiny fishing boat of

eighteen people,

in the middle of the ocean,

no land in sight.

Eighteen people from the neighboring country of

Cuba!

Cubans- maybe not so happy to see the Coast Guard.

Americans staring at Cubans being “Rescued.”

We stayed by the fishing boat until the Coast Guard came

and asked us to leave.

In the end they get to go back to Cuba,

It is a sad story,

a true story.

That makes you wonder how desperate you would have to be?

To get in this boat,

with eighteen people,

to try to make it to America.

FYI: this is Yankee Doodle Canyon

Trailhead - Take the road to Silver Reef from Leeds off of I-15 heading toward Pine Valley Mountain. About 8 miles up the dirt road there will be a pull-out on the right. Where you should find a cairn on the left side of the road. Follow the trail 100 yards until the canyon floor drops out abruptly. This Canyon can have water at certain times of year, and is rated a 3AI – so some canyoneering knowledge is needed.

A long weekend, the Family, and a slot canyon.

What a great combination.

Slot Canyons in Southern Utah there is nothing else like them.

And when I say nothing else, I really mean it - Nothing Else!

Their spectacular beauty – and

the best surprises around every corner.

Not to mention the light

sweet, sweet light.

I promise I only have 200 hundred more photos to go

– I can’t get enough.

Well, maybe you can visit this charming hike and experience it for your self.

Kanarraville Creek Waterfall Trail This incredible hike begins up behind the municipal water tank in the small town of Kanarraville, Utah.Take I-15 and just past Cedar City, you get off at the Kanarraville exit.

The frontage road takes you about 2 miles to the town. Once there, locate 100 North and follow it up to the water tank. Park and walk from there. The trail leading to the falls is obvious. Sooner or later your shoes are going to get wet. At the two water falls that we saw there are make shift ladders . If you are very careful you can climb up and over the waterfalls and continue upstream from there.

This is a family friendly hike – we saw kids as young as about six. Out and back, so let the kiddies set the pace and turn around when they are done.

This is a gem of a hike you do not want to miss.

Places, and times like this are a treasure.

And I know it is there waiting for me to visit again, and again.

I was lucky enough to spend three consecutive days on three different weekends with these three beautiful ladies.

Guess what we talked about. Do you really need me to say it.

YOGA!

Pictured above is Baddha Konasana – one of my favorite simple poses. Doing this postures for a minute or so every day will:

stimulates abdominal organs, stimulates the heart and improves general circulation, stretches the inner thighs, groins, and knees, helps relieve mild depression, anxiety, and fatigue, sciatica pain, and that is just to name a few.

Hold on to your feet and fold forward to deepen the stretch. You do not have to move very far to feel an intense stretch – so remember to breathe.

Over all I love the AHHHhhh feeling you get when you release tension that has built up in our bodies. Most of the time we do not even realize we are holding on to tension. Give it a try – couldn’t we all use a little more AHHhhh feeling in our day.

FYI: when you first start this pose you might feel a little tight in the inner thighs, so use a pillow under both knees for support. Also, sitting against the wall is a great idea and will help with your posture.

Lunar Eclipse

Did you see it? Did you get up?

I believe the reason I love to get up for any Heavenly manifestation are the memories left over from childhood.

I remember getting woke up, or being allowed to stay up late a number of times by a Mom that can see and name most of the constellations. She felt that missing a little sleep was worth the moments of seeing something truly amazing. To me these real eclipses (not the movies or books by Stephanie Meyers) have not lost their magical appeal.

I sat outside for about an hour in the predawn, and enjoyed the peace as I listened to the birds waking up and watched as everything lined up in perfect order. The Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned exactly for an eclipse to occur of course this cannot be by chance. I felt in Awe as I pondered over the amazing creations that a loving Father in Heaven has given us to appreciate. I am so glad for these rare occurrences that happen to remind me of His love for us.

If you happened to miss it do not worry a total Solar eclipse is coming our way on July 11th. Any one up for a trip to the southern Pacific Ocean, maybe the islands of Tuamotu in French Polynesia and Easter Island, as well as the southern tips of Argentina and Chile in South America to see it?

Thursday’s Book

My friend gave me this book on my Birthday last year. For many reasons I was not in the mood to read a sad book last summer. The storyline of the book intrigued me and I had never read any thing written by the author Jodi Piccoult before, and I was happy with her writing style.

By the way I also refused to see the movie. Children with cancer is just a very sad scenario.

My sister put this book up for us to read on my sisters only book blog. When two people mention a book I feel like something in the universe is telling me I need to read it. So I read the back cover again got a box of Kleenexes ready, and decided to give it a go.

Anna older sister, Kate, suffers from leukemia. Anna was conceived in order to harvest blood from her umbilical cord to help save Kate's life; although the treatment was initially successful, Kate relapsed; from her birth on Anna - the only compatible family member, has been used as a donor.

Anna is usually willing to donate whatever Kate needs, but when she is thirteen, her sister needs a kidney – major surgery and not guaranteed to work, and the loss of a kidney could have a serious impact on Anna's life. Anna petitions for medical emancipation so that she will be able to make her own decisions regarding her medical treatment and the donation of her kidney.

This book brings up so many issues that I would need to write a very long blog to give due justice. So I guess you will just have to read the book and see what emotional battles it brings up for you.

I will say I did not like the ending, way too unbelievable after the author seemed to take extra care to make the rest of the book believable. I do believe the brother deserved to go to jail. No matter why he did it no one should get away with arson.

Cancer is devastating for everyone involved, and I wonder what ends I would go to to save my child. Life is fragile we better savor it, and our precious time with our families.

PS. Maybe I should she the movie now.

Have you ever seen someone so excited to graduate.

She was voted the best graduation shoes ever.(just a side note)

I believe it was the all night graduation party that put me over the edge. After I slept for an entire month I’m feeling much better.

Don’t worry about me I bounce back every time.

Maybe We shouldn’t of had three girls in four years. Is it to late to think about? I believe it has about done me in.

Little Princess we are so excited for you. You have a bright future. Be happy! Your graduation day was beautiful and thank you for sharing it with us.

Everyone knows I love yoga – No surprise. I love the benefits which are many. I love how it helps me make sense of life. I love teaching yoga, or I as I like to say sharing yoga. Yoga benefits everybody.

So as I take a break from teaching this summer I do so with mixed emotions. I have taught for 5 years, and I need to refresh, and I need to spend some time with family. Everyone is so understanding –Thank you.

I wonder for those of you who have practiced with me for a long time, or those who are wondering why I think yoga fixes everything. What would you like to know? On Yoga Tuesdays I will be talking about yoga, and only about yoga.

My main focus will be how can we incorporate a yoga lifestyle with out moving to India, living in an Ashram, and folding like a pretzel.

Truth be told I cannot fold like a pretzel. I am working on it, and that is where the story is. Trying to be a little more flexible has had a huge impact on my life, both physically, and emotionally. This is why I love yoga and why I want to share it with you.

Someone in my home knows how to photograph the important moments. These photos are priceless.

Can you imagine what these two are saying about us, and by us I mean Hubby and I. I wonder if they chuckle at us, or are amazed, or fret over us.

I bet they are talking about fishing. Yep my bet is on fishing, they wouldn’t be fretting, men like them do not fret.

To tell you the truth I am pretty darn tender as I look at these pictures. And tender is not pretty on me because my eyes spring leaks, and my nose turns red, it is miserable, I tell ya, down right miserable.

So lets just say my heart is full because I am blessed by these two wonderful fathers whom I adore, and have a very tender spot in my heart for.

I must go now I can’t see the computer screen.

The MEN in my Life

I downloaded some pictures to my computer and saw these. I did not take them. I want to thank whoever did. I am in love with these photos.

I noticed as I looked at these photos that the men in my life have some things in common.

They need to be about 5’8” tall. No taller – no shorter. (I thought my Dad was taller than that my whole life - maybe he is shrinking – who knew.) Mookie has dreams to break this habit and we wish him the best.

They all have smile eyes – which is a nice way of saying when they smile they squint. I do it too it is not a criticism.

They have the best smiles and hate to smile for a camera.

They are happy, you know that deep down I am comfortable with who I am kind of happy.

They all love to fish, and they love to tell stories. That comes with the territory, right. Okay, I honestly do not know this about my favorite SIL, I’ll make sure and ask him later.

And The world is better place ‘cause they are in it. Not just my world the whole wide world. They are good, good men.

Thursday’s book

My Favorite Friends Book Club read this book for the month of May. I have to tell you I was a skeptic. My first thought was - I think there has been more then seven. I will admit wholeheartedly that I was wrong.

This is an easy to read book that points out the fact the God has had a direct hand in the discovery,settling, the government, and preserving America. The seven main miracles of course the authors remind us are what they feel are the miracles that all the other miracles hinge on. I have decided this is a mute point. I choose to believe there are many, many miracles both known and unknown to us.

Admittedly, it is not a heavy history book. It is very easy to read and grasp. The authors also throw in some fictional scenarios that I am not crazy about, but it does give you a sense of what life was like at the exact moment.

I would of left out the “What If” sections. I am not a “What If” person. I understand what the author is trying to point out. In history there are so many moments that hinge on a fraction of a second. It is easy to look back and say, wow what if the fog would not of rolled in when Washington was trying to get his troops off of Long Island. To me this is a little pointless instead the section should be named, Look at what God has done for us.

All in all, this is a read for everyone. Whether you are 10 or 88 you will be able to comprehend the history in this book. The authors did a good job in bringing out the fact that America is special and God has had a hand in every aspect of it.

I came away excited for the prospect of the future of this great land. There are many wonderful and exciting promises in store for this nation. Once again I was reminded that what God promises will indeed happen.

I for one cannot wait.

Thursday’s Book

Even though it is billed as a teen book I would highly recommend being at least 16/18 to read this book. (tad bit of language, and sexual references) I also believe it would not hold the attention of a 13/14 year old.

An ordinary bloke delivering messages, changing people’s lives. In the end, Ed realizes that his life is not so ordinary after all. He matters. It’s pretty much summed up when he says that “if a guy like him can stand up and do what he did, then maybe everyone can. Maybe everyone can live beyond what they’re capable of.”

This book was written before The Book Thief which is one of my all time favorite reads. Though it grabbed my attention enough to finish it and I love the characters. I would say The Book Thief is much, much better book.

I enjoyed this book though I did find the ending a bit of a let-down. I was hoping for a resolution, but was left with more questions than answers. It felt as though Zusak rushed the ending. Leaving me with the huge question. And who exactly was the mastermind?

Maybe these things don’t matter. We should just appreciate the book’s message.

Favorite passage:

As the kids dance around the front yard under the night sky and the lights, I see something.

Lua and Marie are holding hands.

They look like they are so happy, just inside this moment, watching the kids and the lights on their old fibro house.

Lua kisses her.

Just softly on the lips.

And she kisses back.

Sometimes people are beautiful.

Gracelings are people born with an extreme talent, known as a Grace. Rare enough to be unusual, they are feared for their difference and often exploited for their skill. They can be picked out by the fact that they have two different colored eyes.

Graceling, is the story of Katsa, who has been able to kill people with her bare hands since she was eight. Katsa lives in the seven kingdoms, she’s expected to do the dirty work of torture and punishment for her uncle, King Randa. But then she meets a mysterious stranger named Po, who is also a Graced fighter and the first person ever to challenge her in a fight. The two form a bond, and each discovers truths they never imagined about themselves, each other, and a terrible danger that is spreading slowly through the seven kingdoms.

For some strange reason I am reading a lot of young adult books lately that have children with special powers that overcome great obstacles. They are quick reads, and most are very well written.

Plus, it is fun to read a book that I will not be worried if it contains “Irish porn” ( I heard that saying last week, and it made me laugh so hard because it is SO true!)

Of course, the hero’s prevails in the end because they will only use their special powers for doing good, and you are happy to hear there is a second book. Cannot wait to start reading it.

To me – a book on the shelf is the saddest thing there is. Books are meant to be shared. So come on over I am sure there is one waiting for you to borrow.

Utah vs. Hawaii???

I know Hawaii is famous for its beautiful waterfalls, and sometimes I find myself craving a quick trip to the islands just to see them.

But can it compare to this - Waterfalls, icicles, and snow?

It was a lot cheaper to get there- a fraction of the cost really. Not including my time - a mere 10 minute drive.

I came away with the same satisfied feeling of breathing in nature, and taking the time to notice God’s beautiful creations.

Plus…. the best bonus of all.

I danced with my puppy under the water fall. Who can ask for more than that?

Plus… I would never take him all the way to Hawaii.

He is such a naughty puppy, and would probably puke on the plane ride over.

His fields are tilled by illegal immigrants, called "eejits," who have computer chips implanted in their brains so that they can be kept in slavery. Matt, a boy who is confined in a cottage on El Patrón estate, manages to break out, only to find himself treated like an animal. The tattoo on his foot, "Property of Alacrán Estates," means that he is a clone of El Patrón--and that he is being raised to provide spare body parts for his original.

Yes, it is a little creepy concept, but you will love it. I absolutely fell in love with Matt and wanted to take him home and protect him. You know it is a good book is when you love the protagonist and seriously hate the antagonist. The antagonist in this book El Patron is easy to despise, and a couple of weeks after finishing the book I still am seething at the evil El Patron. Nancy Farmer writes her characters beautifully.

Another teen fiction that is set in the future in a very corrupt society. The youth with moral courage rise up and fight for becoming a better society. Are all these books telling us something?

This book is great read, and has won many literary awards. I also believe it is suggested reading in schools for about sixth grade and up.

The Choice

Both are fantastic movies, both are beautiful to watch. Of course both need to be purchased ASAP.

I know my beautiful and talented friend is probably not very happy with me that I posted this photo the other day.

But it was her birthday, and even though most years it fly's by and I ignore it just like I do my own.

I couldn’t resist.

Something takes over when I see these classic 1985 pictures. It is an urge that is so powerful – I can’t resist. I can’t win.

In fact this picture puts such a smile on my face I might post it once a week – FORever!

Truthfully, the thing that is the best about this photo is the couch, carpet, and the wall decor.

Oh my, Oh my, Oh my! I can’t even explain.

Fact:

Both dresses were hers,(I think) probably the ear rings, lip gloss, and blue eye shadow too. She has always had much better taste than I, and she always shared.

We were on our way to a hot Friday night dance at the H.S. Wahoo!

We were seniors. We were going to room together after H.S. We had senioritis!

Bi-level hair was the rage, and we were hip, but I remember being more blonde then this???

I notice jelly shoes – still cool, or is it cool again, or have they come and now gone again. I can’t keep track.

I believe I had just seen Sixteen Candles, and the Breakfast Club. Great movies to get fashion advice from, and movies I would not recommend for my own princesses,

but you have to understand it was 1985.

The best thing about this book is that you will spend an hour on the computer after you read it to find out if it is true. And it is, well mostly.

For the first time in a long time I wanted to take off my shoes and run.

Christopher McDougall sets off to find a tribe of the world's greatest distance runners and learn their secrets, and in the process shows us that everything we thought we knew about running is wrong. Isolated by the most savage terrain in North America, the reclusive Tarahumara Indians of Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons are custodians of a lost art. For centuries they have practiced techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest and chase down anything from a deer to an Olympic marathoner while enjoying every mile of it. Their superhuman talent is matched by uncanny health and serenity, leaving the Tarahumara immune to the diseases and strife that plague modern existence.

Favorite passage:

Whenever an art form loses its fire, when it gets weakened by intellectual inbreeding and first principles fade into stale tradition, a radical fringe eventually appears to blow it up and rebuild from the rubble. Young Gun ultra runners were like Lost Generation writers in the ‘20s, Beat poets in the ‘50s, and rock musicians in the ‘60s: they were poor and ignored and free from all expectations and inhibitions. They were body artists, playing with the palette of human endurance.

Three things I want to do from reading this book.

1. Meet the Tarahumara Indians

Time to confess.

I am a tad bit afraid of heights, ledges, drops offs, cliffs, and any combination of the above.

As proven by this picture – I did make it to the top of Angel’s Landing in 2002. Then again in 2008.

But not this time.

I stayed at the saddle.

My fear of heights is a little different then normal peoples fear of heights.

Did I just say I’m not normal.

Oh well, it may or may not be true, but I have never heard of anyone else having this version.

I am not scared for my self, but for him.

And for cute grandpa’s

It is a little sketchy, you know.

I have a fear of watching something happen to someone else, especially if the someone else is someone I love.

Yes, I am nervous for everyone of them.

Lost and Found

Several years ago my dear grandma passed away. We all still miss her incredibly.

My lovely grandmother and our family at my uncle’s in Snowflake – I am the baby my mom is holding)

My sweet aunt took care of my grandparents in their declining years. When she cleaned and gathered my grandma’s belongings she handed me a photo album to pass on to my parents. I was so excited. This photo album had some old photos I had never seen before and I quickly called my Mom and Dad and told them to come and get it.

Then I put the photo album in a very safe spot.

When the parents came to visit my mother asked for the photo album.

Uhmm- where was that safe spot??

Do not laugh it is not funny.

I seriously cleaned every nook and cranny, many hundred times.

I and my children have cleaned my storage room numerous, numerous times.

No photo album. What have I done?

Where was that safe spot and those priceless photos???

Our Littlest Princess

Life has been an adventure for her – one that she loves.

At first I thought the name Calpurnia was a tad strange, now I want to have another little girl and name her Calpurnia, and call her Callie for short. Think hubby will go for it?

This is an endearing book that I wish would of been around when I was eleven. I would of read it along with the Little House and the Prairie series, Box Car children, and Island of the Blue Dolphins. All of these books have left an undeniable urge in my life for adventure.

It’s 1899 and eleven-year-old Calpurnia Tate is the sole and single girl child in a family full of six brothers. One day she asks her grandfather a question: Where did the huge yellow grasshoppers that appeared during the unusually hot summer come from? Grandfather, an imposing figure the children usually avoid, merely says that he’s sure she’ll figure it out on her own. Only when she does exactly that does he begin to take an interest in her. Before long Calpurnia finds herself a naturalist in the making. Grandfather teaches her about evolution and the natural world, which is wonderful, but it’s really not the kind of thing a girl of her age and era would learn. Between adventures involving her brothers, her friends, and a whole new species of plant, Calpurnia must come to terms with what she is and what the world expects her to be.

Kids might find this a slow read – but it is being passed from friend to friend with high recommendations.

In honor of the yoga workshop I went to last weekend.

When you read this book you might understand why I am Yoga Crazy.

I always have a pen to underline when I read – my kids hate to read a book after I have read it- Sorry Kiddies!

Look what I have underlined in this book.

Thanks to all of my friends who suggested this book. My favorite book of 2010 (so far). A funny coincidence is that I read another book called The Incidents in the life of a Slave girl, by Harriett Jacobs. All in the month of January. All in honor of Martin Luther King day, and black History month. All not planned, and just a happy coincidence.

The novel is told from the perspective of three characters. Abileen, a middle aged African American maid who has spent her life raising white children and has recently lost her only son; Minny, an African American maid who has often offended her employers despite her family's struggles with money and her desperate need for jobs; and Skeeter, a young white woman who has recently moved back home after graduating college to find out her childhood maid has disappeared without a word. These three stories intertwine to explain how life in Jackson, Mississippi revolves around "the help"; yet they are always kept at a certain distance because of racial lines. (Wikipedia)

My friend Bonnie said it best, when she said I loved all the women in this book and was left wanting to know what happened to them.

A great read that will keep you up all hours of the night to finish it. Right- Dana!

Dr Bolte shares with us her recovery and the insight she gained into the unique functions of the right and left halves of her brain. Having lost the categorizing, organizing, describing, judging and critically analyzing skills of her left brain, along with its language centers and thus ego center, Jill’s consciousness shifted away from normal reality. In the absence of her left brain’s neural circuitry, her consciousness shifted into present moment thinking whereby she experienced herself “at one with the universe.”

This book was fascinating. Dr Bolte packs so much information into this small, easy to understand book. I need to re-read it just to digest more of the information. I am loving learning about how our mind and body are so perfectly put together. All things attest that there is a God. Our minds that work so well without us ever having to pause and think about it testifies to me that there is a God.

Visiting Papa

He has had a double whammy.

I never, ever remember my Papa being sick. I’m glad he Is TUFF.

I’m blessed by his stories of people, places and things gone by, his generosity to everyone he meets, and his curiosity of how things work, and most of all his unconditional love of all of his huge family.

Now you sir – Do what the doctors tell you. Eat right, get enough rest, take your medicine. We need you to get all better.

Next visit I will expect to be out walking 2 miles with you.

Memories of my Street

The old street I grew up on.

I can see a little barefoot girl whenever I walk down this street. Blonde hair in pigtails, a huge smile on her face and she skipping down the street to the creek, or the school, or her cousins.

I like to think she still running wild and free on this street.

My old home looks so small.

Married Princess: Did you see the chairs Princess Belle helped me do this week?

Littlest Princess: She helped me get ready for my dance on Saturday.

Hubby: She helped me redecorate the “Yoga Room”

Mookie: She picked me up from school and bought me a jamba.

Me: She made my poster for my primary class and went to the movie with me when I wasn’t feeling well.

I will be installing double locks and bolts on all windows and doors today!

Side note: for some reason it has always been hardest on me when this princess grows up. Being the youngest princess it has a little more impact on me like when she went to jr high, or turned 16, or left me for Peru. What is a Mom to do? I tried to stunt her growth, and make her live in a closet. She is tenacious and smart, and she doesn’t seem to mind that her mom is home weeping.

This time I am serious Double bolts and locks are being installed.

Thursday’s Book

My sisters and I are reading this for our book club this month. I recommended it for my friends book club later in the year.

You know what after reading these last two books, I am so heart sickened by the mistreatment of children, aren’t you! I have seriously had it.

This book that was published in 1861. It chronicles the experiences of Harriet Jacobs as a slave, and the various humiliations she had to endure in that unhappy state, it also deals with the particular tortures visited on women at her station.

Linda Brent- The lead protagonist and a pseudonym for Harriet Jacobs. In the story Linda at a young age is unaware of her being a slave due to the fact of her parents not telling her and her parents' masters allowing them to have their own home and raise their family. She faces betrayal and harassment by her many white masters. Linda along the way learns how to defend herself against her masters.Also later on she is torn between her wants of personal freedom and her feeling of personal responsibility to her family, especially her children Benny and Ellen.

A must read to all who really want understand what the life of a slave is like.
